Colorado River Update: MILE HIGH DRAMA IN THE MILE HIGH CITY!
Hi Amazing Friends of the Colorado River,
HOLY MACAROLE — it has been a wild couple of weeks at Gross Dam in Boulder County, Colorado!
We’ve been waiting to send out this update until the dust settled, but it doesn’t look like the dust is going to settle anytime soon. Today, the news stories continued to ramp up, this time on the front page of the Denver Post. Every TV news station and every newspaper in Denver has covered the story, with our coalition being front and center.
Read the Denver Post story here: https://www.denverpost.com/2025/04/16/gross-reservoir-dam-construction-denver-water-court-rulings/
At the heart of the matter is what sort of penalty Denver Water should pay because a federal judge ruled that they violated federal law when they started constructing the Gross Dam expansion. Further, Denver Water argues that they didn’t violate any law, and they have now appealed the case to the federal court of appeals in Denver.
It’s gotten so crazy that Denver Water has called the judge’s ruling a bunch of derogatory names and one newspaper accused us of “legal sabotage.” Even further, Denver Water has now asked the Trump Administration to issue an emergency order allowing construction to continue. So far, the Trump Administration has been quiet.
We will know more next week about whether this Colorado River-destroying dam project will move forward or not, and we may know more about what penalty Denver Water will have to pay or not.
All of that said, we are committed to helping our coalition defend the judge’s decision in the court of appeals, and we are committed to defending the Colorado River itself.
Stay tuned for all of the action!
