Colorado River Update: The river is collapsing and they want to build MORE dams??

Hi Friends of the Colorado River,

Almost every day there’s a news story about the accelerating collapse of the Colorado River. Just last week, the Bureau of Reclamation announced that flows in the river would be at their lowest in history this spring and summer.

And so our work advocating against even more dams and diversions is more important than ever!

Of all the groups, stakeholders, and noise in the Colorado River system, we are the only group keeping track of, and advocating against, building more and more dams and diversions that would further deplete the river. On Friday of last week, I had an op-ed in Colorado Newsline titled, “No New Depletions has to be in a Colorado River deal.”

There’s no paywall so you can click through and read it here: https://coloradonewsline.com/2026/05/08/no-depletions-colorado-river-deal/

As the chaos accelerates, we are trying to bring some simple common sense to the management of the river. They shouldn’t allow more dams and diversions when the current reservoirs can’t ever be refilled. After all, I ask: Whey you’re in a hole, stop digging, right?

It’s your support that keeps us in the River, making news, and working hard.

Thank you!
