Colorado Rivers Update: Bloomberg Media Highlights Our Work!
Hi Amazing Friends of Colorado’s Rivers,
Bloomberg Media Empire, which says its reach is “over 100,000,000 people/month,” highlighted our work on Friday, May 14th, because we are the only river-protection group in Colorado standing in the face of the river-destruction and dam-building movement. Our work with Save The Poudre and Save The
Colorado is the ONLY group discussed in this article and I am the ONLY person interviewed who is speaking out against the river-destruction madness.
We are thrilled to get this media exposure, although unfortunately, the article is paywalled and difficult for non-subscribers to read. In the story, I point out that at the exact moment in history when the Colorado River is collapsing, the dam builders in Colorado are trying to divert even more water out of the river. Further, as the Colorado River collapses, the dam builders are trying to dam and drain every other river they can, including the Cache la Poudre in Larimer County.
The story is online posted here on Bloomberg’s website if you are able to read it.
To be clear, we are not exactly winning this fight. But, at least we are in the fight, we are forcing concessions and mitigation settlements, we’ve won a few court battles and lost a few more, and we are causing the dam-building and river-destruction agencies to take the health of our state’s rivers more seriously.
The article extensively discusses what it calls Colorado’s “Growth Machine,” the entire economic and political apparatus promoting and subsidizing more water-guzzling growth. Some of the communities discussed in the article are among the fastest growing in the U.S.
And so, facing that multi-billion dollar headwind that is supported by Colorado’s entire political apparatus and water-rights legal structure, we are doing what we can, where we can, and when we can. We may be the only organization in Colorado environmental history that has made the biggest difference and gotten the most media exposure with the tiniest budget.
