Colorado Rivers Update: WHAT WOULD THE RIVER SAY?
Hi Friends of Colorado’s Rivers,
As we head into the festive 4th of July weekend, we hope you can find a place to stay cool, out of the chaos of wildfires, and enjoy the beautiful rivers in Colorado and
the American Southwest. We are surrounded by waterways that are not only beautiful, but also need our support to help keep them alive and flowing.
In the next week or so, our Summer News and Fundraising Letter will arrive in your mailbox at home as well as here in your email inbox (click here for a sneak peak!). Please know that we are working hard to keep our rivers alive, and amidst all the chaos, we are a voice for the rivers themselves, rather than a voice for all of the other stakeholders fighting with each other to further drain our rivers.
Here in Colorado, the feud over the future of the Colorado River is starting to boil over into the media. A news story in Aspen Times yesterday described how state legislators are starting to call out the State’s negotiators in heated public testimony, all as the River’s management spirals toward litigation at the U.S. Supreme Court.
Through this chaos, we are speaking for the River itself. We were pleased to have our “Rights of Nature for Rivers” program highlighted in this video from Harvard Law School’s Systemic Justice Program, and we were pleased to be speaking up for the Rivers alongside Native American leaders in this video. Take a watch of the video by clicking here.
In the video, I answer the question: What would the River say? “It would say, Help!, Help!”
We are doing what we can to help by arguing that the system needs to be transformed. More of our transformative work is highlighted in our Summer Letter posted here.
Thank you for your support! You can donate online here.
