Colorado Rivers Media Update: “Meet Gary Wockner who has shaken Colorado’s water world and made 2025 a banner year for rivers”

Hi Friends of Colorado’s Rivers,

Our organizations have been causing some significant rapids in the Colorado water world over the last year, and I suppose it was inevitable that the media start writing about me in addition to the impacts we are having. Yesterday, the Sunday Colorado Sun posted a profile of me and our work titled, “Meet the controversial activist who has shaken Colorado’s water world and made 2025 a banner year for its rivers.”  (CLICK HERE TO READ IT ON THE COLORADO SUN’S WEBSITE)

The long story is chockfull of quotes, if you’re looking for zingers from my mouth, but also provides a good background of what I’ve been doing for the last 25 years.

Most important, this story gives me the credit for most everything, when in fact I owe many, many thanks to my boards of directors, colleagues, allied groups, attorneys, donors, family and friends who have supported me. I get to be the face and the voice for the work while many others toil in the background making our success possible.

Specifically, our attorney Bill Eubanks had the most impact on the success we achieved over the last year. I get credit for hiring him and helping to scrape together the money to pay him, but his team’s legal acumen is what won the Gross Dam case and then helped cause the legal settlement on the Poudre River.

Ultimately, the dam project on the Poudre River will get built, and as of this writing, the Gross Dam construction will also occur. So, it’s a little weird to have the media writing about “success” when the story is a mixed bag. That said, it’s also true that what we’ve achieved hasn’t occurred in Colorado for over 30 years, and so some type of celebration of success is in order.

None of this could have happened without your support. As I say in the story, we are tiny micro-sized organizations truly fighting Goliath, but your financial support is the stone we used in our sling we whirled against the giant. It’s not the size of the organization in the fight, but rather the size of the fight in the organization.

Thank you, and enjoy the story,

Gary Wockner
