Colorado River Update: Mile High Dam Drama Continues in Federal Court!

Hi Friends of the Colorado River,

It’s like watching a sporting event that goes into overtime, and then double overtime, then triple overtime, and it ain’t even close to being over yet!

Yesterday, a hearing was held in federal court in Denver to determine whether Denver Water should, or should not, be allowed to continue building the massive Gross Dam expansion in Boulder County. At the end of the day, the judge asked for more information and required that our coalition and Denver Water submit briefings about the “public safety” issue associated with stopping the project.

You can read about it here in the Colorado Sun.

Our amazing legal team and expert witness fought hard against Denver Water’s onslaught of “sky is falling” rhetoric at the hearing, and we’re proud of our team’s work. And, there’s more work ahead as well. We’re also happy to see Boulder County Commissioner, Ashley Stolzmann, enter the public fray by arguing for the project to be stopped and for Denver Water to seek alternative solutions to secure their water supply.

Meanwhile, at the same time the hearing was going on, FEET of snow fell in western Boulder County on the continental divide providing a fresh reminder that Mother Nature is ultimately in charge of all water supply systems.

Our coalition fighting this multi-decade long fight is doing everything possible to protect the Colorado River and the watersheds of the Southwest U.S. We encourage you to donate now (and donate often! :-)) to the coalition members keeping this fight alive. The donation links are below:
