Colorado River Update: “Fill Lake Mead, Drain Lake Powell” Makes TV News in Las Vegas

Hi Friends of the Colorado River,

We’re happy to be working in a coalition with several groups as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation moves forward with its big environmental study about how to manage the Glen Canyon and Hoover Dams.

One member of our coalition is the “Las Vegas Water Defender” which is directed by Tick Segerblom. No ordinary river-protector, Tick is a former Nevada State Senator and currently one of seven Clark County Commissioners in Las Vegas. Tick also has a long and storied history of running the rapids in the Grand Canyon including before Glen Canyon Dam was built.

Tick tells Fox 5 News in Las Vegas, “There’s a room for one lake and one dam and that should be Lake Mead and Hoover Dam,” Segerblom said. “It’s going to re-wild Grand Canyon.”

Over the next several months, we will be expanding our work and coalition supporting the “One Dam Solution” on the Colorado River. Glen Canyon Dam should’ve never been built in the first place and its finally time to right this historic wrong. With colleagues like Tick Segerblom in Las Vegas, there’s a real chance to start the process of tearing down Glen Canyon Dam and rewilding the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon
