Send Email To Lyons Town Board — Rights of Nature About You First Name (required) Last Name (required) Your Email (required) Address City State/Region/Province Postal/Zip Code Subject: Please pass a resolution for "Rights of Nature for the St. Vrain River Watershed" Dear Lyons Town Board, I was excited to see that Nederland recently passed a resolution supporting "Rights of Nature for the Boulder Creek Watershed". The issue was covered widely in the media: Boulder Daily Camera: https://www.dailycamera.com/2021/07/13/nederland-passes-rights-of-nature-resolution-to-protect-boulder-creek-and-its-watershed/ Colorado Public Radio: https://www.kunc.org/show/kuncs-colorado-edition/2021-07-15/colorado-edition-natures-rights Denver Post: https://www.denverpost.com/2021/07/23/nature-rights-colorado-mountain-town/ I think it would be wonderful if Lyons could also establish Rights of Nature for our local St. Vrain River watershed. As we all know, the River is the heart and soul of the community, a big part of our tourist economy, and source of inspiration and reflection for local citizens. A Rights of Nature resolution for the St. Vrain River watershed would be a source of pride for the community, help galvanize our push to create a Lyons Creative District, and support our push for a Dark Skies designation. A non-binding resolution would not create any conflict or litigation, but it would be an extraordinary opportunity for friendly conversation about the role of Nature and the River in all of our lives. Further, it would give local citizens the opportunity to come to Town Board meetings with a deeper sense of "speaking for Nature" in our decision-making processes. Respecting and appreciating Nature is likely the primary reason many people live in Lyons. A Rights of Nature resolution would truly reflect the spirit of the town and local citizenry. I encourage you to consider a "Rights of Nature for the St. Vrain River Watershed" resolution at your earliest convenience. Thank you! Sincerely,
