Media Statement: Save The Colorado Will Fight The Fontenelle Dam Project

Today the Walton Family Foundation came out with a report titled “Colorado River: Critical Infrastructure Needs”
http://blog.waltonfamilyfoundation.org/2017/june/why-water-infrastructure-investments-are-essential-to-the-colorado-river

One of the projects they support is the re-engineering of the Fontenelle Dam in Wyoming, which would remove a new 80,000 – 150,000 acre feet from the Green and Colorado Rivers. Further, the State of Wyoming is proposing the Dam project for a massive “energy complex” to fuel the fracking industry in Southwest Wyoming: http://www.hcn.org/articles/green-river-could-boost-industrial-complex-dream

“Supporting a massive new diversion of water out of the Green and Colorado River system to fuel and subsidize the fracking industry in Wyoming is absolutely backwards water policy and climate policy. This idea should be abandoned immediately. Save The Colorado will fight to protect the Green and Colorado Rivers.” — Gary Wockner, Director, Save The Colorado
